The Omaha North Lady Vikings made history this season by capturing the Metro Holiday Tournament championship, marking the first time the program has ever won the title.
The victory is a major milestone for a program that has been steadily building its reputation as one of the top teams in Nebraska. With an 11–3 record, the Lady Vikings have proven that hard work, strong leadership, and growing team chemistry can pay off.
After finishing 10–14 last season, Omaha North entered the 2025–26 season with a new identity and a tougher mindset. The team’s preseason No. 1 ranking reflected high expectations, and the Lady Vikings have not disappointed.
For a program that has not reached the state tournament since 2002 and has not won a state title since 1998, this season represents significant progress and renewed optimism among players and fans alike.
The team’s success has come from a combination of returning players and new talent. Leading the way offensively is senior guard Justine Tcheuhchoua, who averages 14.3 points per game and serves as the team’s leading scorer.
Another key contributor is junior forward T’Niyah Wilson-Smith, who has provided consistent production in the paint with 11 points and 10 rebounds per game.
Sanai Cotton, 11, a point guard transfer, has also made a strong impact by directing the offense and keeping her teammates involved.
“At my previous school, I didn’t really feel like there was enough recruiting or help. It’s been good here. I feel like this was the right move,” Cotton said.
Early doubts about the team’s attitude and chemistry motivated the Lady Vikings to push harder. “A lot of people were saying we weren’t going to go far because of our attitudes. That just gave us more motivation,” said Cotton.
The team has relied on strong communication and a growing understanding of each other’s strengths, allowing them to execute effectively on both ends of the court. As Cotton noted, chemistry came naturally for many players who had grown up playing together, giving the Lady Vikings an edge over opponents.
The Metro Holiday Tournament win was a showcase of that teamwork and preparation. The Lady Vikings played with energy, focus, and resilience, proving they could perform under pressure.
Coach Dailey praised the team’s determination. “This group works hard every day, they hold each other accountable, and they play with focus. That’s why they’re seeing results on the court,” she said.
While the tournament championship is a major highlight, the Lady Vikings’ overall 14–3 record demonstrates consistent excellence.
Wins against tough Metro Conference opponents have built confidence, and the team has shown an ability to compete with anyone on its schedule. Every player, from the starters to the bench, has contributed to the team’s success, emphasizing the depth and versatility of the roster.
Looking ahead, the Lady Vikings aim to continue their momentum into the regular season and beyond. Team bonding activities, disciplined practices, and strong leadership have helped the squad stay focused on shared goals.
Players are determined to build on their Metro Tournament success and compete for a state title, knowing that experience, preparation, and teamwork will be key factors.
With their historic championship, strong record, and cohesive roster, the Omaha North Lady Vikings have cemented themselves as a team to watch this season.
From returning veterans to impactful transfers, every member of the team has played a role in reaching this milestone, and the program looks poised for even greater achievements in the weeks to come.
