Te’shaun Porter, 12, is a varsity football player for Omaha North High’s football team. Porter is number 12 on the team and is a running back.

Porter began playing football seven years ago with motivation from his parents.

“My parents pushed me to play football,” said Porter.

Right now, Porter has 140 carries, 20 touchdowns and 1,254 running yards.

A carry is how much distance a player can get carrying a ball instead of catching it.

Tyson Terry, 10, is a varsity football player and one of Porter’s teammates that thinks highly of him.

“Te’shaun is a great captain and a hard worker,” said Terry.

Julian Turner–Wright, 12, is also a varsity football player and another of Porter’s teammates.

Turner–Wright has known Porter since the sixth grade. “Te’shaun is pretty quiet until you get to know him,” said Turner-Wright.

Larry Martin, the head coach, has been coaching at North for 22 years.

“Te’shaun is a great leader,” said Martin. “On the field he is powerful and explosive.”

The players feel like they have a family bond. “Because we have a strong bond, we are able to play better during games,” said Terry.

This is Porter’s last high school football season, but he doesn’t plan to stop playing.

“I plan on going to the NFL,” said Porter.
