Drake drops worst album of 2021

Mynor Strong, Entertainment Writer

It was September 2, at 11:59 p.m.,I was excitingly waiting for Drake’s album,”Certified Lover Boy (CLB)” . When it finally hit 12:00 a.m., I went to the album and the first song was “Champagne Poetry.”

I listened to the first 13 seconds and on the fourteenth second I turned off the album and went to sleep disappointed.

I was tired but I wanted to wait so I could listen to the album, but it was just a waste of time. My overall rating after I listened to the album is a 6 out of 10. I’ve never liked Drake because of his voice, but I didn’t think it could be this bad. All of his songs sound the same except for very few songs.

CLB dropped September 3 around the same time at Kanye West’s new album, “DONDA” which dropped August 29. The ongoing beef between West and Drake  was reignited with Trippie Redd’s song “Betrayal ft. Drake” where Drake took shots at West rapping, “All these fools I’m beefin’ that I barely know / Forty-five, Forty-four (burned out), let it go.”

West leaked Drake’s address and Drake responded in his song “7 AM on Bridle Path.” Drake rapped “ that’s why your people are believers, they all leavin’ ya / that’s why you buying into the hype that the press feedin’ ya / you know the fourth level of jealousy is called media /  give that address to your driver, make it your destination”.

My friends and my brother said “the album was heat”. I don’t know what’s wrong with them or if they clicks on the wrong album but I could never listen to this in my free time. It could just be my taste but the background sound was horrific, it sounded like a soundtrack in a scary movie and made me uninterested very easily.

My favorite song is “N 2 Deep ft. Future” that I rated a 8  because it was at a fast tempo. Future had good parts and went the best at the end of the song. I don’t like slow songs and Drake’s voice gets annoying to me.

The second best is “7 AM on Bridle Path,” which I rated a 7.9. Drake is talking bout real stuff and how good he was singing and rhyming was ming-boggling. It sounds like a speech but he wasn’t talking he was singing.

The worst song on the album is “Papi’s Home,” which I rated a 3/10. It was slow and repetitive, aside from having to review this song, it will never be played through my AirPods again. The beginning beat felt scrambled, thus making it annoying and very difficult to listen to..

On SoundCloud, the most played song is “Girls want Girls (ft. Lil Baby)”. I rated it a 7.5 because Lil Baby had some amazing lyrics, the way he switched his flow from the songs he does on his own.. Drake was mid, meaning he did do bad or good is was the middle.

Another thing I dislike about the album is that the songs are long . If it is above  4 minutes it is long and most of his songs ran longer than  4 minutes. I get bored of the song especially when it has the same beat, same voice every song,  if you wanted to you can change the lyrics with a different song in the album and couldn’t tell the difference. He had many songs, but they weren’t good enough for me to feel the need to put them in here.

Overall, Drake’s album CLB was mid and I would not recommend if you’re trying to get hyped or ready for something. If I had not done this, I would have never turned the album back on from those 13 seconds.
