The cross-country Metro meet and Junior Varsity Invitational was scheduled to be held on Thursday, October 5th, at Walnut Creek Recreation hosted by Papio South. The runners at this meet were going to be competing against runners from all seven OPS schools, Millard schools, Bellevue schools, Papillion-Lavista schools, Elkhorn South, Westside, as well as some private schools in the area. However, this meet was cancelled due to the severe weather in the area and will not be rescheduled.

For most of the team, all JV runners, that meet was their last chance to run.

“I was mad that the meet was cancelled. I was ready to run,” said Liz Snell, sophomore, JV.

However, Cross-Country head coach, Steven Steinbruck managed to schedule another meet on Friday, October 13th at Walnut Creek Recreation for the JV runners.

Coach Steinbruck scheduled the new meet for the JV runners to “give them a chance to finish their year at a championship meet.”

“[I hope] the runners that commit to running, will meet their own expectations and feel satisfied with the season,” said Steinbruck.

“I was extremely happy [that I get another chance] to run. I really hope to get a personal record,” said Hannah Miller, sophomore, JV.

This meet is for the JV runners only as the varsity runners have districts on Thursday, October 12th and cannot run in both meets.

“It’s been a pretty good season. Next season I hope to make varsity for all races,” said Liz Snell.

The cross-country meet was not the only meet that was cancelled on October 5th. Softball had a tournament scheduled for that day that was also cancelled due to the weather.

“I was mad, but I understand, for safety reasons,” said Ann Fox, sophomore softball player.

Since the softball tournament was cancelled on October 5th, it was moved to Friday, October 6th, and became single elimination instead of double elimination as it was previously scheduled.
