The Omaha North Varsity Volleyball team received new jerseys for the 2025-2026 school year.
Cara Travis, 12, a Varsity Volleyball player has been on the team since freshman year. Travis helped design the new jerseys.
“It was nice because it made us feel seen as players,” said Travis.
She felt seen because the coaches listened to their thoughts and ideas. Feeling seen as a player can help build connections on and off the court.
“I enjoy these jerseys much more than the old ones because they have better colors, they actually fit everyone, and they are short sleeve,” said Travis.
Something the Omaha North Volleyball team admires about their new jerseys is that they have “North Side” embroidered into their jerseys.
“It’s a unique feature, and not many schools have a slogan like that,” said Travis.
This new feature has brought the seniors on the team closer together.
The Senior’s bonded over coming up with the updated designs and different ideas.
Although these jerseys are loved, they have caused a problem for the team. There are two different jerseys, a black one and a gray one.
During the game against Omaha South, the referees had a challenging time seeing the numbers on the black jersey.
The Vikings were also called out at the game against Blair while wearing the black jersey.
“This caused a major problem for the time because, for every game we played wearing the black jersey, we would have to start a point behind the other team,” said Travis.
Due to the issues with the coloring and visibility of the jerseys, the North Volleyball team is sending the jerseys back to get fixed.
They are going to make the numbers more visible to prevent future conflicts with the referees.
