In May 2025, Omaha North High School announced that they were getting a football stadium, which is expected to be fully built by 2027. North Omaha is undergoing a transformation with the construction of a brand-new stadium, which is expected to enhance both athletic and community experiences.
Construction work on the stadium officially began in September 2025, with heavy equipment arriving onsite. Demolition of the existing YMCA building started as well, marking the first phase of the project. As construction continues, the stadium is expected to include several updated features designed to improve the overall experience for visitors.
The facility will be fully ADA compliant, including a zero-entry design on the home side and ramps to allow access to the visitor bleachers. John Hankel is a Curriculum Specialist and the Assistant Athletic Director at Omaha North.
“Plans and design work are ongoing, but our main focus is creating an accessible space for all community members,” said Hankel.
In addition to ADA compliant features, the stadium will include modern restrooms, water fountains, and bottle fillers, as well as signage throughout the site to assist with navigation. Handicap seating and parking will be available on both the home and away sides of the stadium.
“This is part of our commitment to ensure that the stadium is accessible and convenient for everyone,” Hankel added.
The stadium will also include a state-of-the-art sound system, a video board, and upgraded locker/team areas. Onsite concessions will be available, and a press box designed to accommodate multiple media groups is part of the stadium’s design.
“The management of the stadium will fall under OPS, as the stadium will install security cameras and a perimeter fence for added safety,” said Hankel.
While the new stadium is expected to provide a range of modern amenities, it is still in the development phase, with several details yet to be finalized. The completed stadium is expected to contribute towards the ongoing development of North Omaha, though its’ impact will become clearer once the project is finished in 2027.
Updates on the stadium’s construction and further details will be shared as the project progresses.
