On Thursday August 28, 2025, the Omaha North Viking took on the Westwide Warriors in a season opener home game.
The Warriors defeated the Vikings with a score of 58-27.
Despite the loss, the Vikings had a home field advantage and a big fan base rallying on their side of the stands.
The atmosphere of the game was wild as many fans were struggling to obtain a seat, due to many of them being taken up.
According to Eric Johnson, Omaha North’s Athletic Director, there were a little over 5,000 total fans in attendance, with more than half cheering on the Vikings.
Concessions were also full, with most of the area being crowded with people waiting in line to have a treat or drink to enjoy the game.
The bathrooms were also crowded, not leaving much space for people to move around away from the stands.
“I feel like they should make all students pay, it shouldn’t be a free game especially if it’s too crowded, and to deal with behaviors as well,” said Micheal Lathan, Security Guard.
Also, many students that do not attend North end up going to the game, which is even more for the security to deal with.
Security constantly had to migrate and control the crowd. It was very difficult, however, as many of the rowdy fans were unable to even move due to the big crowd surrounding them.
“It’s challenging to deal with the crowd of people, because you know all the OPS kids are let in free, and people not just from North, but other schools are there as well,” said Reginald Jamerson, Security Guard.
Some students and staff also noticed that not just people from North, but also other schools attended the game.
“Yes, everybody from every school comes to our games… bro it’s so crazy,” said Tionie’ Mitchell, 11.
As the season continues, the stands remain full of fans cheering on the Vikings.
