During the 2023-2024 school year, Omaha North High School implemented Viking Choice Time during Viking Time.
Viking Choice Time occurred on Tuesdays and Thursdays during Viking Time. Each teacher would have a different club or activity where students could choose what topic peaked their interests.
Some of the room choice topics were study rooms, quiet areas, college help, coloring, music exploration, and athletics. This is not a comprehensive list of all of the offerings for Viking Choice Time.
When the 2024-2025 school year started, many students wondered when Viking Choice Time would pick back up.
“I was wondering when Viking Choice Time (VCT) would start back up. I thought it would not be happening this school year,” said Tionna Cooper, 11.
As of November 2024, Viking Choice Time has not started yet.
John Huber, curriculum specialist and head of Viking Choice Time, has been working with the leadership team to determine when it will be implemented. According to Huber, Viking Choice Time will be starting in January. The program has taken longer to implement this year due to distribution of the new iPads to the students.
“New iPads are still being sent out to students in grade 10-12. After the new iPads are finished getting sent out to students by the end of this semester, Viking Choice Time (VCT) should be starting next semester after winter break, said Huber.
At this time, teachers have not chosen what they want their clubs or classroom topics to be for Viking Choice Time.
